Back Pain

Back Pain is the most common reason patients visit a Chiropractor.

It is estimated that 70–90% of people will suffer from some form of back pain

at some point in their lives.

For some patients back pain is a discomfort, for others it can leave them incapacitated. Back pain may also be associated with hip and buttock pain, as well as pain and pins & needles into the legs and feet.

At Proactive Spine & Sports Medicine, our team are highly trained at firstly diagnosing the cause of your back pain, then utilising a wide range of highly-effective techniques to not only get rid of the pain, but also prevent it from reoccurring.

There are a large number of possible causes of back pain. These can range from joint and ligament sprains, disc bulges & injuries, arthritis and muscle spasms. However, the most common cause of back pain is stress to the joints and muscles of the back, which may be brought on by simple everyday activities, such as:

  • Sleeping Incorrectly

  • Incorrect bending and lifting techniques

  • Sitting down for extended periods of time

  • Poor posture at work

What Does Chiropractic for Back Pain Involve?

At Proactive Spine & Sports Medicine our first step is to diagnose our patients conditions, then dedicate the time to explaining and educating them on what is going on and how to best fix it and keep back pain from re-occurring. Our Chiropractor will first take a medical history, perform a physical examination, and may request diagnostic imaging to determine what treatment is appropriate for your back pain.

The treatment plan may involve one or more manual adjustments in which the chiropractor will manipulate the joints, using a controlled, sudden force to improve range and quality of motion. We also include treatment techniques such as;

  • Spinal manipulation

  • Muscle release techniques

  • Impulse Adjusting and Activator Methods

  • Terminal Point Table (Drop Table)

  • Dry needling

  • Corrective spinal and postural exercises

Our Goal is to restore function and prevention of injury in addition to back pain relief.

What Are the Benefits of Chiropractic Care?

The first course of action we find our patients take is medication such as Aspirin and Ibuprofen. At proactive we believe it is important to find the source of pain rather than mask it with medication and creams that reduce systematic pain but do not actually treat the underlying problem.

Spinal manipulation and chiropractic care is a safe, effective treatment for back pain.

Research has  shown chiropractic to be effective in relieving lower back pain in the long term, by addressing the deeper problems connected to the pain. By releasing tension in the joints and muscles, Chiropractic provides a safe, simple and efficient form of therapy for back care.
